How to Tie a Lark's Head Knot
Macrame & Hemp Essential

Larks Head Knot The lark's head knot is the starting point for the Hemp Fishbone & Bead Choker. It's a great knot for hanging stone donuts or pi beads or for attaching metal rings to any type of cord. This versatile knot is very easy to tie.

You can tie this knot with a single cord around a rod or ring or you can tie it around one or more cords. In this example, the knot is used to start a necklace that is to have loose strands so that it can be tied around the wearer's neck. Fold the cord in half to form a 'U' at the cord's center. Lay the object (set of cords in this case) across and perpendicular to the 'U'. The ends of the knotting cord extend out of the photo toward the bottom.
Pass the ends of the knotting cord over the object (three cords in this example) and through the loop that is formed.
Use even tension to tighten the knot.
Here's the knot pulled even tighter. Easy, right? The knot has a different appearance depending on which side it is viewed from... take your pick.
