Creative Beadweaving showcases several off-loom beading stitches, with instructions for performing the stitches, increasing/decreasing, and combining stitches. Use the stitches to create the 20 projects, which range from classic to funky jewelry, beaded beads, and vessels. After a brief introduction, each chapter is devoted to a stitch or stitch collection. First, instructions are covered, followed by a project or two. Examples of finished pieces (not projects) are interspersed throughout the instructions and tutorials. The graphics and photos are top-notch. The instructions are given as black-white diagrams, as opposed to photos following the creation of the beadwork. Each project includes a materials list, description of the techniques that are used, an estimate of the finished size of the project, and numbered step-by-step instructions. It might have been a good idea to have included some estimate of the time involved for each project, since some projects take many hours to complete.
I would think this book would please anyone who likes to explore different off-loom beading stitches. There is something for everyone, from beginners to advanced beaders. Creative Beadweaving is available as a paperback or in a hardbound edition. The most recent edition was published in 1998, so if you don't have it, you might want to get it before it becomes unavailable. If you enjoy this book, you may also want to check out The Art & Elegance of Beadweaving, also by Ms. Wells.
