Max Lunger's book of instructions and patterns includes all of the information you'll need to start creating your own fashionable hemp jewelry. The book starts out with a list of definitions of the terms that are used and some facts about hemp. Next, Max gets down to business, explaining how to determine when to cut your cords. Once the basics are covered, there's a detailed knotting guide, with line drawings, photos (black/white), and written step-by-step instructions for tying all of the knots used in the projects. Each project is accompanied by a true-size labeled photograph and clear numerical instructions. After a series of necklaces/bracelets/anklets, there are some patterns for making dream catchers and other ornaments. The instructions for the Josephine knot (pretzel) knot are the best I've seen. The sliding loop clasp is a neat, professional-looking closure that I haven't seen elsewhere. I also liked that the photos are actual size, so you can get a true sense of how a project will look when completed. In my opinion, this is the easiest hemp knotting book to learn from. Max includes snippets of humor throughout the text - it's not a dry or boring instructional text. Once you've mastered the basics, try the second book, Hemp Masters - Getting Knotty: More Ancient Hippie Secrets for Knotting Hip Hemp Jewelry.
