What I like about this book is that it takes an in-depth look at the aesthetics of beadwork, rather than just presenting techniques and projects.Thirteen beading techniques are introduced, and then 40 projects, with variations (53 total projects). The projects are organized into three categories: jewelry, accessories, and home accents. They include earrings, chokers, necklaces, bracelets, hair combs, ponytail holders, picture frames, books, cards, boxes, and holiday ornaments. Quite a bit of attention is given to elements of design, such as use of color, exploring asymmetry, using similar beads of different sizes, and achieving random looks. The projects are designed to be affordable to make. Over 250 color photographs accompany the step-by-step instructions and materials lists, so it's easy to see how a project is accomplished and what it will look like when completed. Someone completely new to beading will be able to make these projects. More experienced beaders and jewelry makers can benefit from the discussion on color, asymmetry, and balance.
